Christopher Old Training and Experience
Christopher Old attended graduate school at The University of Virginia where he earned MEd and EdS degrees in Mental Health Counseling. He earned his undergraduate degree at the College of William and Mary.. Christopher is licensed in California as a Marriage and Family Therapist (license# MFC44697) and in Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (license# 0701003891). He is also a National Certified Counselor. Christopher is an active member in professional organizations including the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapist, the Association for Experiential Education (Therapeutic Adventure Professional Group), and the American Counseling Association. He has also been a presenter/ speaker at various professional conferences. Prior to opening his private practice, Christopher had extensive counseling and therapy experience in Virginia and California. He worked at non-profit counseling agencies as well as a therapeutic day school. In these positions, Christopher provided a variety of psychotherapy services and was responsible for developing new counseling programs. Before pursuing his graduate degrees, Christopher was a professional white water rafting guide and guided trips not only in the United States but also in Chile, Peru, Nepal, and parts of Africa. In addition, he was an instructor and course director for Outward Bound. From these experiences, he developed a love of the outdoors and a high level of proficiency in wilderness skills. He excelled at connecting with clients to ensure a positive experience. Through these outdoor adventures Christopher also learned the value of creating change through experiences and incorporates these ideas into the adventure therapy aspects of his private practice. In addition to his private practice, Christopher teaches part time at Sierra College. Christopher and his family live in Truckee, CA. He and his wife are raising twins with the help of their golden retriever. They enjoy the many outdoor adventures the Tahoe area provides.
